Wilderness Ridge is a public golf course located in southwest Lincoln, and definitely is a pleasure to see and play. This course is a wonderful parkland layout with lots of trees, many water hazards, undulating greens, and bunkers everywhere. The Championship Course is one of the two courses available to play at Wilderness Ridge. When coming to Wilderness Ridge you would expect it to be a Country Club and very private. But it is completely public, although membership is offered and there are many exclusive benefits for members. Also, this course is definitely one of the most beautiful courses in Lincoln. And also one of the most difficult courses.
This course from the back tees plays at around 7100 yards and has been the sight of many prestigious events. This course has hosted Web.com tour qualification school events, Nebraska Section PGA events, US Open Qualifying, and numerous collegiate and junior events. Along with the speedy greens, and difficult layout, this course could definitely host a PGA tour event. I used to work at Wilderness Ridge and I got to play this course for free. So I’ve played it many times. It is definitely one of my favorite courses to play and is the course where I broke par for the first time.
Some tips to consider when playing this course is keep your ball in the short grass here. The fairways are tight, and there are many fairway bunkers and the rough is thick and long. A ball in the rough can cause your next shot to be a bit difficult. And the bunkers at this course are a challenge also. The sand is kept up in a way that it makes it extremely difficult to get out of the bunkers consistently. Also make sure you are a little familiar with the course layout before playing here. There are many water hazards that aren’t evident, and lots of other things around the course that can surprise you if you do not know the layout. Lastly, if you are playing with a low score in mind, attack pins. The greens here are ALWAYS soft and receptive. If you hit your shots at the pins, they will stay near the pins. And putting on these greens is a pleasure due to the speed and the smooth surface so birdies are definitely out there.
If you are interested in playing this course check it out! I really recommend it and check out Wilderness Ridge’s website.
